LMDP : Notre histoire

OUR HISTORY

As 3rd generation jumper manufacturers, we have seen our trade change and then deteriorate over 5 decades, until it reached its peak in Fast Fashion.

After developing and manufacturing jumpers for major ready-to-wear brands, we were determined to reclaim our know-how.

Aware of our environmental impact and the climate challenges ahead, to be in line with our values and pursue our shared passion, we created La Mécanique Du Pull in 2019. We joined the “slow fashion” movement and began offering limited editions, knitted in 100 copies in exceptional, sustainable yarns.

Today, with our Respire collection, we aim to democratise jumpers made from recycled fibres. Stylish jumpers, knitted by people we know, whose production methods won’t make you blush.

Make your purchase more meaningful by knowing where and how your jumpers are made, while helping craftsmen do differently what they’ve always done: Sweaters made from recycled fibres.

VALÉRIE, JONATHAN, SERGE AND THE OTHERS

Like a Claude Sautet film, our story is about family, meeting and friendship.

Grandpa, a gentle mechanic by trade, set up his looms in the Passage Vendôme, a stone’s throw from the Place de la République. It was there that his son, Serge, learnt the trade and that they knitted jumpers, as a family, for over 20 years, right in the heart of Paris.

At the same time, Valérie was making her first creations behind her next-door neighbour’s sewing machine. She bought her first balls of wool at the Monop’ in Chaville and knitted her first ‘T’ jumper in blue-white-red striped moss stitch. She followed her passionate path and, after the Duperré School, worked with some of the big names in ready-to-wear.

LMDP: histoire / Valérie

The curtain closed for the last time on the family factory on 9 August 1994. The radio was playing Jamiroquai’s “When you gonna learn” over and over again. It was a sign.

And then his grandson, Jonathan, met up with his father around other weaving machines. It was in Clamart, with families of Armenian origin, that they continued to make this craft, sharing their knitting memories over a Turkish coffee.

In the end, each of us produced our own designs in the Paris region, without any “Made in France” label. Until the day when it was no longer possible to produce in France.

LMDP: histoire / Maroc / Casablanca

And it was in Morocco, in Casablanca, around new weaving machines that Serge and Jonathan met Valérie.

Mint tea replaced Turkish coffee and we began to weave jumpers and forge strong links with this country.

Today, the three of us have dropped anchor in another passageway, not far from the Place de la République.
